Many Sided Face

Many Sided Face presents a series painted portraits that explore human interactions with the natural environment, and relationships between Australian landscape and identity. These works draw on Australian cliches and popular culture, using a combination of coloured cleaning gloves and hand gestures that imitate iconic Australian birds in their ‘natural habitat’. The domestic cleaning glove is used as a motif to represent suburbia and our detachment from the ‘bush’ or ‘outback’ and the flora and fauna that inhabit the land. These portraits present a modern alternative approach to connecting with the thematics of Australian identity, place and belonging.
